MAYOR CUTS THE RIBBON ON WORLD-CLASS SUPERYACHT YARD

STAGE 3 IS NOW LIVE, BOOSTING NEW BUSINESS & CAPACITY ON THE GOLD COAST

There’s no slowing down the expansion at The Boat Works. Since completion in February of the $100 million Superyacht yard, positive demand has driven the start of Stage 3 of the Superyacht service facility. All is on track to commence in August with forecast for completion by the end of 2020 in time for the peak summer season.

Stage 3 will be a $30 million development will consist of an additional 10,000-square-metres of purpose-built marine workshops and retail facilities to complement the existing Superyacht yard expansion.

With an additional 12 marine service workshops to occupy a 5,000-square-metre hub including marine retail showrooms facilitating a range of marine professions, such as Engineering, Fabrication and Refinishing works and Custom Marine Trimmers – creating 250 new jobs. This will boost the number of trades and marine professionals on-site to over 1,000 on any given day.

The other 5,000-square-metres will comprise four new high bay Super Sheds for specific controlled work environments for larger vessels. With an expansive dedicated sandblast bay with unlimited height options which will accommodate vessels up to 55-metres in length, complementing the existing array of controlled works environments on offer here onsite.

“We have fast-tracked Stage 3 due to demand following the new Superyacht yard which official opened in February and has been operating at capacity since May,” explains Shane Subichin, General Manager at The Boat Works.

Since opening just five months ago, the new yard has proven popular with the region’s superyachts, both privately owned and commercial vessels, many of which took advantage of the Covid-19 restrictions to undertake refit works and routine maintenance.

Under the banner of “Simply the Best”, the Boat Works continues to impress local and international visitors with the breadth and quality of its facilities and the service ethic which spans management, tenants and contractors.

The city’s Mayor Tom Tate & Deputy Mayor Donna Gates were welcomed for the official ribbon cutting ceremony with owner Tony Longhurst.

Over the last 40 years the Longhurst family has committed to major investments within the Coomera precinct with the success of Dreamworld and The Boat Works marine facility in the Gold Coast Marine Precinct creating numerous jobs.

The City’s Mayor commented, “It’s exciting to be here to see this dream realised. Our marine sector is going ahead in leaps and bounds and it is exciting to see a Gold Coast company like The Boat Works continuing to prosper, expand and create jobs during these difficult times.”

Today, the entire facility occupies 55-acres, the largest in the southern hemisphere with 60+ marine businesses on-site and the Gold Coast’s largest ship lift with 300 Tonne capacity.

The Boat Works is a vibrant, evolving community at the heart of the Coomera Marine Precinct and a proud contributor to the burgeoning economy of south-east Queensland.

“Our tenants and contractors have been kept consistently busy since the yard opened, and many of them, and some new businesses, require additional space to keep pace with demand. The Boat Works is renowned as arguably the cleanest and environmentally-friendly shipyard facility in the southern hemisphere, if not the World.

“Stage 3 will enhance The Boat Works’ offering and cement it as the most comprehensive marine refit and maintenance yard anywhere.”
