Strengthening our Moonen Yachts alliance and reflecting our ongoing commitment to premium brokerage and new yacht opportunities, Alexander Marine Australia Dealer Principal / Director Todd Holzapfel visited the Moonen shipyard in the Netherlands this July. During his visit, he inspected first-hand the progress of multiple new Moonen Yachts currently under construction, amongst those were two Moonen 36m Martinique’s.
Moonen Yachts are a boutique shipyard that creates unsurpassed excellence in the grand tradition of Dutch yacht building, manufacturing some of the world’s finest superyachts in the 34 to 40-metre size range.
Masters in the unique craft of steel yacht building for more than 40 years, Moonen established their reputation for the very highest quality long-range yachts with steel hulls and aluminium superstructures from their very first yacht, delivered in 1981 as ‘Lady M’. Since then, Moonen Yachts have delivered more than 80 yachts worldwide, including renowned classics like the Moonen 84 and Moonen 97, as well as the modern Moonen Martinique.
Moonen 84
Having transacted three Moonen 84 Brokerage Yachts to date, including 'Willow', the Moonen 84 sistership 'Amphitrite' and finally the Moonen 84 sistership charter yacht 'Aurora', Alexander Marine's global yacht acquisitions & superyachts division are proud of our growing association with the esteemed Moonen shipyard.
The Moonen 84 series remains a standout in the Moonen fleet, delivering the presence and comfort of a much larger yacht while retaining the versatility and ease of handling that makes this series appealing to experienced cruisers. The Moonen 84 series is highly regarded among discerning yachtsmen for its blend of traditional build quality and understated elegance, reflecting the shipyard’s reputation for producing truly oceangoing motor yachts which continues to this day.
As an example, and a testament to timeless Dutch craftsmanship, designed for long-range cruising with exceptional seakeeping ability, ‘Willow’ was sold and settled by Alexander Marine earlier this year from New Zealand. Her impressive cruising history has seen her thus far journey from Europe, across the Pacific Ocean and down to New Zealand, on her own bottom. Alexander Marine represented both the Seller in Otago and the Buyer, based in Brisbane, Queensland Australia, and we are happy to report that ‘Willow’ has now arrived in Australia!
Worth noting is that ‘Willow’ features a substantial custom hull extension that has completely transformed the stern of this particular vessel with the swim platform now configured as a purpose-built teak-laid fishing cockpit perfectly suited for fishing, diving, and ease of access to the water generally.
Martinique Series
In early June this year, the shipyard confirmed the sale of the seventh hull in its successful Martinique series - the 37.4m (122’8”) Moonen 122 Martinique YN205.
Matthew Stone & Richard Gray represented Moonen Yachts with the American buyer being drawn to the yacht’s flexible layout, seamless indoor-outdoor flow, and the shipyard’s willingness to accommodate customisation, including a delivery delay to allow for bespoke features like a Jacuzzi.
Designed by René van der Velden with naval architecture by Diana Yacht Design and interiors by Hollander Yacht Design, the YN205 yacht reflects Moonen’s Dutch craftsmanship and client-first ethos. Currently under construction, the 345GT yacht is scheduled for delivery later this year. Upon completion, she will embark on her maiden voyage from the Netherlands to her homeport on the East Coast of the United States.
Moonen Yachts are also pleased to announce the pending completion of the 122ft YN206, which is the eighth Martinique in their acclaimed series, and scheduled for delivery this year. Notably, the YN206 is the first Martinique to showcase an interior by the renowned Vripack Yacht Design studio. This fast-displacement, transatlantic motor yacht combines exceptional Dutch craftsmanship with advanced safety features for true peace of mind at sea. Delivery is scheduled for November 2025.
