DESCRIPTION & DETAILS

The Horizon Vision 68 'Sandalera' has now SOLD.

She was a proven long-range motor yacht designed and configured for remote cruising and during her life she had ventured across the top of Australia several times.

She was delivered new into Australia for her previous owner in 2008, with her silver two-pak painted hull setting her apart from the fleet.

If you're not familiar with the Horizon range, the Vision Series represented the largest volume boat for her length at the time of her launch. She also featured the widest beam compared with other Horizon models. She was therefore large enough to make "A home away from home".

Living areas and cabins on the three levels were enormous. Space had not been compromised anywhere onboard. Her main deck was open plan and ideal for entertaining and socialising incorporating a lounge, formal dining and galley.

Forward of the galley, stairs led you down to the lower accommodation. Her previous owner chose the three-cabin version which enabled a full beam mid-master stateroom - that's a massive 6.2m wide! Features included hull windows, dressing table which could also be used as an office or library, plus a beautifully styled ensuite with his and hers vanity and an opulent shower recess.

To port was a guest cabin with two single berths. This cabin was adjacent to a full-size bathroom with vanity, head and large separate shower stall. The formal guest cabin was up in the bow and included a queen size island berth and a beautifully styled ensuite not dissimilar to that in the owner's cabin. All cabins included TV and DVD players and were air-conditioned.

From the rear cockpit a stair case provided access to the flybridge - alternatively you could take the stairs from the main saloon directly up into the skylounge. If you're at sea, this was a great option and offered additional safety so you didn't have to venture outside in foul weather.

The skylounge was large enough to be its own cabin. A leather lounge wrapped around what could be either a dining or chart table. This also lowered to create another double bed for overflow accommodation. To starboard there was a small powder room, so no need to go all the way down stairs when nature calls.

The helm station was equipped with an extensive array of electronic navigation and communications equipment. A forward-facing Sonar was one piece of kit her previous owner said was worth its weight in gold, able to provide an accurate profile of what's lying under the surface up to 500m ahead. He also suggested the 80kg Ultra Anchor and Trac Stabilisation System fitted to 'Sandalera' should be high on anyone's list if they were planning a voyage along our coastline.

The skipper had his own leather helm seat within arm's length of the dash. Vision from the bridge was great and in addition a wireless Yacht Docking Controller and additional cockpit docking station enabled you to walk around the vessel while maintaining total control from literally any point onboard. This was ideal when berthing in tight quarters. Absolutely no blind spots!

The engine room was accessed via a water tight door from the swim platform or from a hatch on the teak cockpit floor. As you stepped through this door there was a bathroom to port with toilet and shower, a crew cabin, laundry with Miele appliances, a work bench, loads of storage plus two style drawer fridge/freezers. All in all, a spacious comfortable area.

You could be forgiven for assuming 'Sandalera' was only a few years old. Her engine room was immaculate featuring two 1000HP Caterpillar C18's and two 240V Onan gensets. These had been regularly serviced by Caterpillar. A hydraulic system ran the Trac stabilisers, bow and stern thrusters plus the windlass. No Mickey Mouse gear here, just heavy-duty equipment built for reliability and functionality. An air compressor and Karcher pressure cleaner were also part of the engine room inventory. Head room and access around the engine was good.

'Sandalera' had additional batteries to run the ship for eight to ten hours at a time reducing the need to run the genset all night. This provided enough power to keep the fridges cold and other systems running.

A Brig rigid inflatable tender with 50HP outboard was stored above the cockpit and behind the wheelhouse. A hydraulic davit system was used to effortless launch and retrieval. Simply remove the tender chocks to reveal yet another spacious entertaining area with bar and electric grills.

There was far more to this ship than what meets the eye. Redundancy systems, backups and quality gear throughout had served her well and continued to provide a brilliant and reliable luxury cruiser for her new owner to enjoy.

The new owner of 'Sandalera' also benefited from her previous owners' experience. He was happy to impart his knowledge to any new owner wanting to follow on in his footsteps and take on some long-range adventures.
