Alexander Marine Australia are pleased to present the 2008 Grand Banks 65 Aleutian 'Havana' to the market as worldwide central agents.
She is the only 65 Grand Banks Aleutian in Australia, ordered new for Australian delivery by Riviera (who were the Grand Banks importers at the time), and sold to her first owner who based the boat on the Gold Coast during which time she had only modest use. Now in the custody of her second caring owner for the last 3 years, 'Havana' has been cruised extensively including two voyages up into the Gulf Of Carpentaria.
'Havana' is an amazing vessel in several ways. In the first instance she is immaculately presented (being maintained by her full time live aboard captain). Her equipment levels are extensive - both as built ex-factory including Naiad stabilizers and likewise as a result of substantial and ongoing upgrades that now see her equipped with touch screen electronics for example. Also her almost 20ft beam makes for an extremely spacious vessel - permitting wide walk around teak laid side decks, a three cabin and three bathroom guest accommodation layout (importantly her third cabin offers side by side bunks - not "over and under" style bunks as required when the vessel doesn't have sufficient beam forward), and she carries an impressive amount of fuel as required for long range cruising. The contrast to other 65ft vessels is significant - 'Havana' is a big and extremely well equipped 65. Last but not least 'Havana' offers sprint speed capability exceeding 20 knots - perfect for when you just want (or have to) get somewhere in a hurry.
As you step onboard 'Havana' you will observe her custom extended swim platform which is a significant improvement over what is otherwise a very short/stumpy ex-factory setup. So much so this area is capable of storing a small tender or jet ski and has its own dedicated Steelhead Hydraulic Crane for this purpose! The extended platform is complete with removable S/S safety rails onto which a large custom S/S bait board and S/S Sovereign Electric BBQ can be/are mounted. An aft facing bench seat across the stern is a great spot to sit when trolling underway or when moored at a favourite anchorage with swimmers in the water. A removable euro-awning shade provides protection from the elements over the extended platform. A large centreline hinged deck hatch permits crawl in access to a huge full beam storage void that was created by the hull extension - you can never have enough storage! Across the transom of the vessel you will observe a hot and cold deck shower, pressure blaster connection point and likewise a recess for the ships shore power cable as connected by an Glendinning electric Cablemaster. In short the custom extended platform arrangement on 'Havana' is an absolute winner!
Access from the swim platform up onto the teak laid cockpit is a dual access affair. The cockpit is well protected from the elements by way of the fly bridge overhang and acrylic side wing doors restrict breeze roaring down the side decks when anchored in poor weather. Shade mesh can be installed into a dedicated sail track for additional sun protection when entertaining in the cockpit. Two electrically height adjustable high gloss varnished teak dining tables, each complete with an inlaid GB monogram, are installed in front of a full beam bench seat across the stern. The split table arrangement permits guests in the middle of your party to get up without disturbing everyone - smart thinking! In the starboard forward corner of the cockpit you will find a custom built top opening cool box being supplied crushed ice via a Dometic Eskimo Ice Chipper (which can make as much as 250kg of ice per day!) - make no mistake your drinks are genuinely always ice cold on board 'Havana'! To port you will find a curved staircase leading up to the fly bridge - internal all weather access is also possible to the fly bridge via an internal staircase from the pilothouse. Access to the crew cabin and engine room is possible via an external door on the port side deck under the above mentioned staircase up to the fly bridge.
As you enter the saloon via sturdy double doors you are instantly reminded as to why Grand Banks is highly regarded for building quality boats - and again you are reminded 'Havana' is indeed a beamy craft. The all-important ships liquor cabinet, drinks ice maker, and glass storage unit is located immediately to starboard as you enter the saloon. The portside of the saloon features a leather lounge suite running basically the full length of the saloon and likewise a custom GB timber coffee table. The pop up TV is installed to starboard, as are two chairs looking back at the lounge suite for when you are having a deep and meaningful conversation with your guests. Entertainment is provided by way of Satellite Foxtel IQ television (2 boxes are installed on board - the master cabin having its own dedicated Foxtel box) and Bose surround sound. All guest cabins feature their own TV's - additional TV's are located in the Galley and in the Crew Cabin. Note all Satellite equipment including a KVH V3 IP Satellite Phone was installed new in 2016. The saloon features electrically controlled Oceanair blinds when you require privacy or protection from the sun. Wool carpet has been installed in the saloon over a teak and holly sole (the entire internal floor finish throughout all interior areas - under any carpeted surfaces - is teak and holly).
Moving forward from the Saloon and up a few steps you enter the pilothouse level which also contains the spacious galley. The galley is open to the saloon area which ensures nobody feels isolated from other guests. The galley features light coloured Corian benchtops and Miele appliances. A total of 8 underbench twin drawer refrigerators and freezers combination units offer plenty of space to keep your provisions cold (which is complimented by a further 200 litre top opening Frigibar freezer on the fly bridge for storing bulk frozen food). The galley features a Meile dishwasher, Insinkerator waste disposal unit and also a trash compactor. A nifty electrically retractable overhead storage cabinet permits anybody on watch to have an uninterrupted view forward when standing in the galley. A settee and dining table is located forward and to starboard - conveniently located right opposite the galley.
The pilothouse features a centreline helm station with a comfortable Stidd helm seat from which the captain has a commanding view forward. Dual Simrad touch screen electronics will guide you to your next anchorage. Communication equipment includes a 4G ships mobile phone, Wi-Fi network, and previously mentioned Sat phone. 'Havana' is equipped with a GPS vessel tracking system, which also provides "power out" notifications in the event the vessel is unattended and the power supply is lost/cut. The pilothouse features dual helm doors out onto both side decks (both pilothouse doors and the aft saloon double door are fitted with retractable phantom fly screens). Her Portuguese bridge design intended to shed any green water scooped onto the foredeck quickly overboard when the going gets tough.
From the pilothouse you have internal access to the spacious fly bridge, which is enclosed by a hardtop and has clears fitted to three sides (plus a stamoid removable cover aft). The fly bridge is air-conditioned for your comfort. The centreline helm is well appointed with a spread of Simrad tough screen electronics at your fingertips, as well as featuring dual Stidd helm seats for the skipper and navigator in this area. Aft of the upper helm station are two L-shaped settee's, each with their own table, which makes a great additional all weather entertaining area. Aft of the hardtop is the tender storage area, serviced by a substantial fully hydraulic Opacmare crane which is installed to starboard. The vessel is currently equipped with two fishing tenders such is the room available (note the fishing tenders are not included in the sale).
Access to the lower deck accommodation is via a staircase to the portside of the helm. Below deck you will find three generous guest cabins, each with their own bathroom - a genuine three cabin three bathroom layout. The forward VIP cabin features a centreline queen size island bed - the en-suite for this cabin doubles as the day head as it has a 2nd entry from the main companionway and is therefore convenient for guests to use as they arrive down into the lower accommodation foyer. The twin cabin, featuring side by side bunks, is located to starboard (and features a removable infill to convert this cabin into effectively another double bed). The highlight of the accommodation is the master cabin which features a huge king size bed installed athwartships. The master en-suite is positioned on the portside of the cabin and features twin basins with separate shower and toilet cubicles. The master features a designer wall paper finish which is a nice touch. Plenty of storage space can be found in all accommodation areas but particularly in the master cabin. Emergency engine room access (eg fire escape) is possible out of the master cabin via a watertight door in the hanging locker in the master cabin.
The foredeck of 'Havana' is teak laid - indeed so are the side decks and fly bridge deck too! Forward of the Portuguese bridge you will observe two comfortable forward facing bench seats which can be a lovely spot to sit while underway or at rest - great for the sun lovers. Yet more storage is located under both of these seats, as well as in behind the Portuguese bridge. The anchoring equipment includes a dual gypsy Maxwell hydraulic horizontal windlass, dual robust 13mm galv chains and a substantial pair of S/S Ultra Anchors.
Access to the crew cabin, and then forward into the engine room, is via a door on the port side deck which utilizes the void under the staircase up to the fly bridge for headroom. The Crew Cabin itself features two comfortable bunks and a crew wet head. A crew fridge is also provided. Moving forward, via a watertight door, you enter the well-equipped engine room. Her Caterpillar C18 power has proven ever so reliable and has been regularly maintained. The quality of her engineering is clear to see in the machinery space.
It is important to note the current owner has gone to extraordinary trouble and expense to make the boat an extremely capable and safe long range cruising vessel. Such features include a S/S strike plate on the bow at and below the waterline, the creation of dedicated additional underfloor storage compartments in otherwise unused space, the installation of rope cutters on each shaft, the installation of a radio battery in the event of a primary electrical systems failure, the installation of a 2nd stand-alone inverter/charger, the ability to isolate each battery bank in the event of an isolated battery cell failure that would otherwise compromise the total battery bank, the duplication of the ships electronics which provides the skipper two completely independent navigation systems, the installation of a 2nd generator, two fuel transfer pumps, two water pumps, duplicated heavy duty anchoring system including S/S Ultra Anchors - the list go on and on and on...... Recent full polish, antifoul and propspeed. Fresh brightwork as well!
'Havana' is an extremely rare well equipped blue water passage maker ready to depart on her next voyage. Inspection is by appointment. She is currently lying at our dock, The Boat Works Complex, Coomera.
